Prove What Is That Good and Acceptable Will of God

Who should I marry? Where should I go to school? What job should I take? What church should I join? Where should I invest my finances?

Most of us know the importance of seeking the perfect will of God on these very important issues. We also understand that God is concerned about every detail of our lives, large and small. Through diligent study of the Word, we know that it is God's will for us to continually walk in divine health, favor, protection, prosperity, wisdom, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

But I have discovered that it is not enough for us to know the will of God. As born again Christians, our daily lives must also prove the will of God. Romans 12:12 challenges us with this bold statement:

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

The New American Heritage Dictionary says that the word "prove" means: "to establish truth or validity of by presentation of argument or evidence." As believers we all have the opportunity and responsibility to establish the truth of God's Word in our everyday lives.

Each one of us is living proof, evidence in the earth, that it is God's will to heal the sick, deliver the oppressed, and abundantly bless all that we set our hand to do.

However, if we are serious about proving the will of God, it is vital that we get busy changing our old ways of thinking and entirely renew our mind to the Word of God. Verse two in the Amplified Bible says it this way,

But be transformed (changed) by the entire renewal of your mind, by its new ideals and its new attitude; so that you may prove for yourselves what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect in His sight for you.

God has a good, acceptable and perfect will for each one of us, just waiting to be proved out in our lives. It is time for us to get busy! Realization of that truth hit me square in the face recently. Within a few days time, it seemed like I was constantly confronted with people that didn't have a clue about God's will concerning healing and prosperity.

Just the fact that they were still sick or still broke was their evidence that it must be God's will for them to stay that way. They had overlooked the fact that 2 Timothy 2:15 commands us to, "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

Don't Fall For Religious Traps
It was clear that because they had neglected to study the Word, they'd become confused about the will of God and ashamed. They had fallen into an age-old trap designed by the devil to neutralize the power of God. They were conformed to the world and the traditional ways of thinking instead of being transformed by the renewing of their mind.

If you've lost your confidence in these areas, don't worry. You can regain your confidence, banish confusion, and begin proving the will of God simply by making a few practical changes in your daily living.

Where do you start? First, find a quiet spot, open your Bible and allow the Word to begin to correct your old way of thinking. 2 Tim 3:16-17 tells us that,

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

Hebrews 13:20-21 says,

Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

The next step is to trust the Holy Spirit to be your guide as you study the truth in God's Word. In John 16:13, Jesus promised,

How be it when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.

You don't have to be in the dark about God's will for your life! Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit Paul wrote in Ephesians 5:17,

Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

And then in Colossians 1:9, Paul let the church know that he was praying for them exactly that way:

For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.

Now that we have the light of God's Word, our lives should be a reflection of Him. In every area of our lives, we have a commission to prove the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God. Ephesians 5:8-10 says,

For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light, for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth; proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

You are created to walk in health. You are destined to prosper. You are the light of the world, and can prove the will of God throughout the earth.
